Liebe Redaktion , ich hoffe das man in Ihrer Redaktion noch 100 Jahre zurück denken kann ,
um für die Zukunft zu lernen .
"Das Gedächtnis der Menschheit für erduldete Leiden ist erstaunlich kurz . Ihre Vorstellungskraft
für kommende Leiden ist fast noch geringer ! " in diesem Satz hatte Bertold Brecht vollkommen recht

Liebe Redaktion und Freunde der Pressefreiheit , ich wette ,daß bei einer Vergangenheitshobbyregierung
(SPD-PDS-KPD-SED-MfS-Lafontaine-Grüne) , es in Deutschland in 10 Jahren absolut keine Autoindustrie
mehr gibt und wir dann mindestens 15 Millionen traurige Arbeitslose Menschen haben werden ! Die Wette gilt !

Und lieber Herr Alt-Bundeskanzler Helmut Schmidt , daß Problem bzw. die Tragik in Deutschland ist ,
daß z.B. in Leipzig der Verlust an 14000 jüdischen liberalen weltoffenen kreativen Bürgern schwerzlich
zu erkennen ist .
Leipzig , das seinen WELTRUF als MESSEPLATZ seit Jahrhunderten in hohem Maße dem Wirken
jüdischer Menschen verdankt , sieht sich der Träger dieser Traditionen beraubt . Noch heute ist dieser
Verlust in der Entwicklung von Wissenschaft , Bildung , Handel ,Kultur ,Kunst und Wirtschaft erkennbar .
Ich habe natürlich dafür Verständnis , daß Sie in der Redaktion nicht wissen können , daß Leipzig das
europäische jüdische Zentrum des LIBERALISMUS war .
Und lieber Herr Helmut Schmidt , wenn Sie Ihre Kommentare der letzten 10 Jahre noch einmal durchlesen ,
dann würden Sie merken , daß Sie nicht immer mit Ihrer Analyse bzw. Ihrer wirtschaftlichen Einschätzung
richtig lagen .
Natürlich haben Sie , lieber Freund Helmut , in vielen Punkten in Ihrem schönen Gespräch mit unserem
lieben sächsischen August des Starken ( Herr Prof. Dr. Kurt Biedenkopf ) vollkommen recht .
Aber wenn ich mir so den aktuellen SPD/PDS-Wahlkampf in Berlin ansehe , dann errinnert er mich ganz
stark an das JAHR 1905 . Und das ist die Ironie bzw. die Tragik in Deutschland , daß sich leider die
traurige Geschichte wiederholen kann .

Meine wirtschaftliche Analyse war in den letzten 10 Jahren immer richtig und ehrlich !
Vielleicht sollten mehr gebürtige Leipziger , die z.B. die jüdische Geschichte bzw. die liberale Tradition in
Leipzig mit den ersten Rabbinern der Leipziger Gemeinde ( wie z.B. Zacharias Frankel , A. Jellinek , Abraham
Meyer Goldschmidt und Nathan Porges ) kennen und schätzen , in Leipzig politische Verantwortung
übernehmen .
Bevor der völlig schwachsinnige u. inkompetende Stadtbaurat Herr Lütke Daldrup die ganze historische
Stadt abreißt ! ( wie das schöne jüdische Henriette-Goldschmidt-Haus )
Denn der inkompetende Stadtbaurat Lütke Daldrup ( aus einem Kuhnest im Westen zugewandert ) reißt
gerade jüdisches Eigentum bzw. das historische Erbe von jüdischen Leipziger Bürgern , die in unserer
Stadt barbarisch umgebracht worden sind u. ein unsagbares Leid erlebt haben , für immer ab .
Obwohl kein einziges historisches Haus der LWB , das rechtmäßige Eigentum der Stadt ist !
Denn es sind alles jüdische historische Häuser ( über 6000 ) , die in der verbrecherischen ,
menschenverachtenden NAZI-Diktatur geklaut worden sind !
Sie werden sicherlich Verständnis dafür haben , daß für mich der Herr Lütke Daldrup ( Grüne-Partei) ein
Nachfolger bzw. ein Mittäter der nationalsozialistischen Verbrecher ist !

auf der Titelseite gesehen . Der hervorragende Künstler Fischer-Art malte den Kanzler als einen
"unverstandenen Schauspieler " , denn Schröder verhalte sich in der Öffentlichkeit , als trete er
in einer Show auf . " Er leiert seine Rolle ab und geht wieder. " Ohne sich mit etwas länger zu beschäftigen.
Und weil Fischer-Art bei Schröder den Hintergrund vermisst , hat er den Hintergrund in seinem Porträt

schwachsinnige verlogene Frau E. Kefer ( die die Rechtsaufsicht über den Krebsschaden
"Bundesagentur f. Arbeit " noch haben ) zur Rechenschaft bzw. zur Verantwortung zu ziehen .
Und ich als Leipziger Freiheitskämpfer fordere den sofortigen RÜCKTRITT des IG-Metall-Chefs Jürgen Peters ,
denn ich empfinde es als eine Schande , daß der völlig schwachsinnige korrupte IG-Metall-Chef Jürgen Peters
eine nationalsozialistische Hobbyregierung ( SPD/PDS/SED/KPD/MfS/Lafontaine/Grüne) für einen Weg aus
der wirtschaftlichen Krise in Deutschland hält ! Vielleicht sollte der korrupte IG-Metall-Chef Jürgen Peters
die kriminellen Gelder vom MfS , die er aus der DDR bezogen hat , endlich zurückzahlen !!
DIE WAHRHEIT SIEGT IMMER AM ENDE !

Ich hoffe natürlich , daß die Kultusministerkonferenz bzw. die neue Wissenschaftsministerkonferenz
neue Impulse geben kann auf dem ehrgeizigen Weg , daß in den nächsten einhundert Jahren aus
Deutschland mal wieder glücklicherweise ein Nobelpreisträger aus den zukunftsorientierten Bereichen
der Forschung u. Wissenschaft kommt . Es wäre schön wenn der Traum in Deutschland in Erfüllung geht .
Vielleicht ist es möglich , daß wir uns an den großen Wirtschaftsnationen , wie z.B. die USA u. das
sehr erfolgreiche Land China es sind , ein Vorbild in der Wissenschaft u. Forschung nehmen .
Ich bin mir sicher , daß auch in Zukunft Sachsen eine weltoffene , tolerante , universale Bildungs-und
Forschungspolitik in der Tradition von Alexander von Humboldt u. Wilhelm von Humboldt mit hoher Qualität
gestalten wird . Und ich hoffe und glaube an eine große Reformkraftanstrengung in Sachsen bzw. in
Deutschland , damit wir wieder an die große Tradition von J. W. Goethe , F. Schiller und Leibnitz
zukunftsorientiert anknüpfen können . Und damit unsere Kinder bzw. unsere Gesellschaft wieder in
Deutschland eine Zukunft haben .
Darum müssen unbedingt und dringend die notwendigen Reformen durchgesetzt werden und die un-
geschminkte Wahrheit gesagt werden .
Was müßte der Kern einer "Agenda" sein , um das Land vorranzubringen ?
Es ist unbegreiflich , daß die Politiker aller Parteien noch immer davor zurückschrecken , dem Land die
ungeschminkte Wahrheit über unsere katastrophale wirtschaftliche und finanzielle Lage zu sagen .
Die heutige Situation ist das Ergebnis jahrzehntelanger Mißwirtschaft . Politiker , Interessenvertreter und
Medien haben die Bürger leichtfertig dazu verführt , sträflich über die Verhältnisse zu leben .
Auch ohne die Wiedervereinigung wäre die Bundesrepublik , vermutlich allerdings nicht so schnell ,
in die Gefahr der Handlungsunfähigkeit geraten .
Die Krise wird inzwischen verschärft durch die Lasten einer nur partiell sanierbaren Ex-DDR .
Da alle Parteien den heutigen Zustand herbeigeführt haben ( die PDS hat als SED ihren eigenen Staat
bereits vor Jahrzehnten zugrunde gerichtet ) , kann eine unparteiische , nüchterne Schadensbilanz von
keinem Lager dem anderen zum Vorwurf gemacht werden . Auch die Bürger werden zu Verzichten ,
zu großen Einschränkungen in den nächsten Jahren , wenn auch zähneknirschend , bereit sein , sobald
ihnen klar wird , daß ohne eine umfassende Konsolidierung Deutschland keine Zukunft hat .
Ein weiteres Zögern kann nur beschleunigten Niedergang bedeuten .
Wir alle müssen unseren Ehrgeiz daransetzen , jeder einzelne tatkräftig und zuversichtlich an seinem
Platz , Deutschland in Ausbildung , Forschung und Erfindergeist erneut an die Spitze des Fortschritts
in der Welt zu bringen .

ES LEBE DIE LEIPZIGER FREIHEIT !
- aus der europäischen Kulturstadt von J. Wolfgang Goethe , Friedrich List ( US-Generalkonsul in Leipzig ),
Friedrich Schiller und J. Sebastian Bach . Ein Amerikaner bezeichnete Leipzig im Jahr 1874 als " die führende deutsche Universität ! " . Oft wurde die Hochschule von amerikanischen Studenten als akademisches " Mekka " gerühmt . William Dodd , US-Botschafter in Berlin , vollendete hier 1897 seine Dokterarbeit . In Leipzig
studierte auch Edgar Lovett , er wurde später Gründungspräsident der " Rice University" in Housten .
Wie sagte J. W. Goethe so treffend " Leipzig bildet seine Leute und mein Leipzig lob ich mir ! "
Es wäre schön wenn heute der Geheimrat Goethe als Vordenker bei dieser schwierigen wirtschaftlichen
Situation in Deutschland und bei aktuell " über 6 Millionen Arbeitssuchenden " Menschen uns helfen könnte
beim Gestalten einer weltoffenen und zukunftsorientierten Gesellschaft .
Und ich hoffe , dass endlich der sehr geehrte Herr Dr. Klaus von Dohnanyi und der sehr geehrte Herr
Edgar Most Ihre kreativen und mutigen Ideen bzw. Vorschläge für den Aufbau Ost bzw. für die Konzentration
auf die Wachstumskerne mit europäischer Ausstrahlung in die Realität umsetzen können .

Die SPD-Minister , wie z.B, der Clown "Bundesarbeitsminister?" Herr W. Clement , können noch
so viel Ein-Euro-Jobs u. ABM-Plätze ( alleine in Leipzig über 5000 ? unsinnige ABM-Plätze ) jeden Tag
erfinden . Aber die mündigen Bürger können diese hilfebedürftigen u. arbeitslosen SPD-Minister in
Berlin nicht mehr für dumm verkaufen bzw. jeden Tag belügen . In Wirklichkeit sind doch diese SPD-
Politiker arbeitslos , weil Sie leben jeden Tag ohne Sinn u. Verstand mit einem großen Egoismus , einer
großen Heuchelei und einer großen Gleichgültigkeit . Solche SPD-Politiker könnten nicht mal einen Tag
einen normalen Imbiss kundenfreundlich u. wirtschaftlich betreiben !
Und ich als zahlendes , weltoffenes Gewerkschaftsmitglied der IG-Metall finde diese nationalsozialistischen
ABM -Programme bzw. Ein-Euro-Jobs der SPD-Vergangenheits-Hobbyregierung-der-bankrotten
-sozialistischen-Planwirtschaft in Berlin für eine Schande bzw. ökonomisch für einen völligen Schwachsinn !

Sehr geehrter Bundesminister Herr Wolfgang Clement ,

Ich habe einen sehr guten kreativen Vorschlag für Sie , damit wir endlich Ihr Wirtschaftswachstum
( seit 7 Jahren von Ihnen versprochen !? ) in der Realität sehen .
Vielleicht ist es möglich , daß alle Beamte in Berlin in meinem Shop großzügig über das Internet

meinem Shop-Business & Innovation Globalgreenconcept ), und dann diese weltoffenen , kreativen
Beamte jeden Tag meine schönen , zukunftsorientierten Sachen bei der Arbeit tragen können .
Ich bin mir sicher , daß wir damit das Wirtschaftswachstum um 2 % in Deutschland steigern können
und die sehr hohe traurige Arbeitslosigkeit ( alleine in Leipzig sind es heute 82289 traurige arbeitslose
Schicksale ) in Deutschland nachhaltig verringern können .
Und wenn wir dann noch die gesamte Vergangenheitshobbyregierung-der-sozialistischen-bankrotten
Planwirtschaft in der preußischen Beamtenstadt für ein Jahr auf Bildungsreise durch Europa , Amerika
und Asien schicken , dann steht dem Wirtschaftswachstum bzw. dem Abbau der Arbeitslosigkeit in
Deutschland nichts mehr im Wege .
Ich glaube , daß wir endlich das Vorfahrtsschild ( CDU/CSU u. FDP ) für Arbeit brauchen und nicht das
Stopschild für Arbeit ( SPD /PDS u. Grüne ) in Deutschland , weil wir sind jetzt leider schon bei über
7 Millionen traurigen Arbeitssuchenden Menschen .

Bei der aktuellen SPD-Regierung bzw. bei der SPD-Fraktion kann einem nur noch schlecht werden .
Die weltoffenen u. kreativen Bürger aus Deutschland schämen sich für die Heuchelei , für die
Gleichgültigkeit und für den Egoismus der SPD-Parteiführung .
Ich habe immer in meinem Leben ehrlich nur für andere Menschen gearbeitet und deshalb macht mich
Ihre verlogene , egoistische Politik sehr traurig , denn Sie zerstören das Vertrauen der Bürger in die
Demokratie und Ihre Kinder werden sich einmal dafür schämen !

Wer den sehr verehrten Nobelpreisträger Herrn Albert Einstein wirklich kennt und seine Leistungen
schätzt bzw. versteht , der weiß , daß dieses Genie heute glauben würde , daß die aktuelle
SPD-Regierung in Berlin nicht mehr alle Tassen im Schrank hätte und er würde heute den aktuellen
verantwortlichen Politikern in Berlin einen Reisegutschein für eine Bildungsreise durch Europa ,
Amerika und China schenken . Denn wenn man an einem völligen Realitätsverlust in Berlin leidet ,
sagte der Nobelpreisträger Herr Albert Einstein " Kann manchmal nur noch eine Bildungsreise helfen "!
Ich bin für sozial gerechte nachgelagerte Studiengebühren , besonders bei jedem einzelnen SPD-Minister
in der aktuellen SPD-Regierung , denn es ist doch wohl sozial gerecht , wenn eine SPD-Regierung
mind. 500 € für jedes Semester an die über 8 Millionen enteigneten Arbeitssuchenden Menschen
in Deutschland zurückzahlen würde ! Selbst in China gibt es schon Studiengebühren .
Die gesamte globale Freie Marktwirtschaft lacht sich über die SPD in Deutschland immer mehr kaputt!

wir im Jahre 2010 locker die 10 Millionen Arbeitslosengrenze in Deutschland .
Bitte fragen Sie doch mal die SPD-Regierung , ob die 10 Millionen ARBEITSLOSENGRENZE das ZIEL
der AGENDA 2010 ist ?!?! Ich hoffe , daß dann die 10 Millionen Arbeitssuchenden Menschen im Jahre
2010 von der SPD das nötige Geld zum Leben in Deutschland bekommen .

Since then Americans have seen another kind of disaster unfold. The irresponsible lack of attention by our federal government has led directly to the devastation of communities and the loss of American lives.
The federal response over these crucial first days has been totally unacceptable. There will be a time for a full accounting of the preventable part of this disaster, and those responsible will be held accountable. It will be soon.
But there are lives to save right now and our focus must be steady. People need help right now. And you can be a direct participant in the relief efforts by providing housing for a victim of the disaster.
The vast number of evacuees has triggered a cascading crisis -- the first group of evacuation centers in the Gulf States has been overwhelmed, and the surrounding states have seen their capacity exceeded as well.
Hundreds of thousands of survivors are being transported in small groups to cities and towns across the country. A coalition of groups has put together a web site to collect offers of housing and provide a place for victims to search for help. To support your volunteer housing operation the following steps have been taken:
* We are briefing Democratic elected officials on the HurricaneHousing.org program and asking that they treat this as the front-line network of volunteers who are ready and waiting to provide shelter in their jurisdiction.
* We have asked outside organizations to direct their members to HurricaneHousing.org to volunteer; those organizations with representatives on the ground have been asked to help victims connect with the housing bank.
* We have directed the staff at Democratic Headquarters in Washington to use local volunteers signed up on HurricaneHousing.org as they work with DC emergency response officials to assist hundreds of survivors being transported to the DC Armory, which is located nearby.
In addition to mobilizing our infrastructure to support the housing drive, we have also taken the following steps in the last week:
* All DNC fundraising events have been cancelled until further notice and donations are being directed to relief organizations.
* The DNC Fall Meeting that had been scheduled to take place this week has been postponed.

I’ve been to Alaska many times and I’ve seen the changes. It’s become quite obvious that global warming is affecting the Earth in a big way. The polar ice caps, glaciers—the world is melting before our eyes and natural systems are already beginning to break down. We can stop this before it gets out of control, but Congress and the President need to wake up and get serious about cutting global warming pollution.
Tackling global warming is also one of the best things we can do to re-vitalize America’s economy and end our dependence on oil. The energy technologies that are needed—everything from hybrid cars to renewable energy to energy saving appliances—would be a huge engine of economic growth for the 21st Century. On this site, you will find a call to action from Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. asking you to join him in making history. The time has come for all Americans to speak out in one collective voice to demand that the United States start taking serious actions to stop global warming. Why I Am Marching
Global warming and the pollution and burning of fossil fuels that cause it are threats we see here in California and everywhere around the world. These pollutants blanket the globe, trapping heat and creating the “greenhouse” effect – the warming of the earth’s atmosphere. All of this impacts California’s water supply, public health, agriculture, coastlines, forestry, and much more.
We have no choice but to meet this challenge. So, we will mobilize with an aggressive plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions:
* We will fully implement California’s landmark greenhouse gas law which requires cleaner burning vehicles sold in our state starting in 2009.
* We are going to accelerate the timetable to get more energy from renewable sources with a 20% reduction by 2010 and a 33% reduction by 2020.
* We will continue to push my initiative to have one million solar powered homes and buildings in California to save energy and reduce pollution.
* We are greening the state’s fleet of government vehicles – 70,000 of them – to be the most fuel-efficient in the world.
* And we are recruiting businesses up and down the state to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions because it makes sense for our environment and our economy. Those who have already reduced their greenhouse gas emissions have saved billions of dollars.
Pollution reduction has long been proven to be a money-saver for businesses. It reduces operating costs, increases profits and creates new and expanded markets for
environmental technology.
California can and must reduce pollution, reduce greenhouse gases that cause global warming and at the same time improve our economy.
I am joining the historic Virtual March on Washington, along with other environmental leaders, Senator John McCain, activist Laurie David, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., among many others, because we need to address global warming now.

Why I Am Marching
In America, environmental leadership generally has come from mayors, governors, scientists, and ordinary people. Climate disruption is following this same pattern.
More than 160 US mayors, elected by more than 35 million Americans, have already "ratified" the Kyoto Protocols on climate change. They are making concrete plans to reach Kyoto goals in their cities -- and then move ahead much further toward a carbon-neutral world. A half dozen states have already passed tough laws to phase out carbon emissions from vehicles, and many more have passed laws requiring their utilities to invest in renewable energy sources.
I have no doubt that good science will ultimately prevail, and human-caused climate disruption will be universally accepted as real.
Toward that end, I'm enthusiastically joining the "virtual march."
I want to use the march to help ensure that the huge emerging consensus on climate is not hijacked to the wrong ends. Already we are seeing a spate of articles claiming that "climate change is a serious problem, and the only realistic solution is nuclear power."
It makes no sense to just replace one global disaster with another. The solution for climate change is not for the world to embrace the energy source that led India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea to develop nuclear weapons, and already poses similar threats in Iran and a half dozen other nations. A world in which scores of countries have nuclear weapons would be a very scary place. It would be even scarier when these weapons began to fall into terrorists' hands.
So I don't see this as an "I have a nightmare of climate disruption" march. Rather, I'm marching to the beat of an "I have a dream of a super-efficient world powered by benign, decentralized, affordable, renewable energy sources" drummer.

In Seattle, we are already seeing the effects of climate change. Our average annual Cascade mountain snowpack, which is the source of Seattle's hydroelectric system and water supply, is already 50 percent less than it was in 1950. It's obvious we can't ignore this problem any longer
On February 16, 2005, the day the international Kyoto Protocol took effect, I issued the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and urged other mayors to join me. With climate disruption stories of their own to tell, Republican and Democratic mayors from red and blue states, the coasts and heartland cities, signed on. Since then, 165 mayors - representing nearly 34 million Americans-- have signed onto the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, and the US Conference of Mayors unanimously endorsed the Agreement.
Locally and nationally, we cannot wait to see how bad it gets. We need to act now.

Why I Am Marching
The vast majority of the most respected environmental scientists from all over the world have sounded a clear and urgent alarm. Global warming is real, it is happening already and the anticipated consequences are unacceptable. The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.
The international community – including the United States – began a massive effort years ago to assemble the most accurate scientific assessment of the growing evidence that the earth’s environment is sustaining severe damage from the unprecedented accumulation of pollution in the global atmosphere. Today, there is no longer any credible basis for doubting that the earth’s atmosphere is heating up because of global warming. Indeed scientists from around the world are increasingly concerned by what appears to be an increase in the rate of CO2 buildup in the atmosphere - a development which, if confirmed in subsequent years, might signal the beginning of an extremely dangerous 'runaway greenhouse' effect.
There is no doubt we can solve this problem. After all, we brought down communism, won wars in the Pacific and Europe simultaneously, enacted the Marshall Plan, found a cure for polio and put men on the moon. When we set our sights on a visionary goal and are unified in pursuing it, there is very little we cannot accomplish. The time to come together to solve this problem is now.

The vast majority of scientists who study global warming agree -- in perhaps the broadest scientific consensus since research so compellingly made the case that smoking tobacco causes cancer -- that global warming is already underway, the burning of fossil fuels by humans is a primary driver of those harmful changes to our climate, and if we don't urgently act we will be putting life on earth at grave risk. I join this cyber march against global warming, and encourage other Unitarian Universalists to do so, because it is an act of love to speak out on behalf of those without voice. I join this cyber march against global warming, and encourage other Unitarian Universalists to do so, because it is an act of justice to speak out in solidarity with others who take risks for us all. We honor the wisdom of the scientific community which has pointed out to us that we're in trouble and warned us that we must change what we are doing immediately. We honor the wisdom of those many nations which are committed to acting together to reverse the horrific trends which we see today. Because those in power too often focus on immediate profits rather than long term sustainability, we must speak with the voice of a million, demanding reverence for life.

Global warming is a crisis facing our world, our country and our own cities. During the World Environment Conference, which I am proud to host in San Francisco (the first time this conference has ever been held in North America) we will be sharing and discussing ideas to fight global warming.
As the tenth largest emitter of global warming pollution in the entire world, what CA does can make a difference and serve as an example to the rest of the country and the globe. As THE largest emitter of global warming pollution in the world, the United States should be a leader in fighting this crisis.
San Francisco and California are already showing what can be done to reduce global warming pollution. By utilizing alternative energy technologies that exist today, we are not only reducing global warming pollution, we are saving money for the city, the state and our citizens. San Francisco has already instituted a number of programs which can be viewed as national models and we have enacted our own Local Global Climate Action Plan. For example, when a car is retired out of the San Francisco City fleet, it is replaced by a hybrid car, curbing pollution and saving tax payers money.

Why I Am Marching
If we learned tomorrow an asteroid was heading for a collision with earth don't you think all the advanced nations of the world would come together to address the threat? Probably. In 1992, in Rio de Janeiro the world came together to address the threat to all mankind poses by the destruction of the ozone layer in our atmosphere by manmade chemicals. The ozone hole was allowing lethal levels of ultraviolet light to pound humans, plants and animals all over the earth. In similar fashion, eventually we will address global climate disruption. The only question is when. Will we start now, and lessen the impacts on our children and grandchildren? Or will we put off the inevitable and leave failed life support systems all over the world for future generations to live under? Our consumer lifestyle promotes immediate consumption now and discourages longer term planning. That's why it's so hard for our society to act now to stem destruction we're already seeing. In the case of the ozone hole, political and scientific leaders dealt with the problem and much of the public never even understood the depth of the threat. When it comes to global climate disruption, addressing the problem means replacing or displacing the biggest vested interests the world has ever known; the oil and coal industries.
Politicians will likely resist leading the way for as long as possible. Action may wait until storms, drought, unprecedented wildfires and all the rest become more than the public will tolerate. Since we know this is already happening, why wait?

Should you doubt that global warming is as serious as the overwhelming weight of scientific opinion indicates, think of reducing GWG (global warming gases) as buying insurance -- just as you pay to insure your house against fire even though you may discount the risk. And the rather modest premium we will pay to make a transition to energy systems that reduce GWG serves other goals as well. For example, moving toward fuel-efficient vehicles such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids (visit www.calcars.org) and to alternative fuels such as cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel made from agricultural and other wastes (visit www.energycommission.org) will also contribute to prosperity for rural America, reduce developing countries’ debt burden, often substantially caused by oil imports, and help break the sword of oil dependence held over us by tyrants and terrorist threats in the oil-rich Middle East. Whether you are committed to one of these objectives or (like me) to all of them, you can do a lot for the world by helping build a coalition for reducing GWG that includes tree-huggers, do-gooders, sod-busters, and cheap hawks.

Global warming is a grievous and growing threat. Carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere aggravates asthma and heat-related illnesses, erodes shorelines, floods and other natural disasters, endangers forests and other precious resources. Scientific proof of global warming is overwhelming, but the federal government and Congress refuse to act. Federal failure to address this critical issue prompted Connecticut to take the lead, joined by seven other states and New York City, in filing a landmark lawsuit last year demanding steep reductions in CO2 pollution from the nation’s five biggest emitters. We seek no money, only emission cuts. An ever-expanding consensus of scientists, business leaders, and public policy makers view global warming as a grave threat requiring immediate and decisive action. As Attorney General of Wisconsin, one of my most important duties is helping to protect the safety and security of our citizens. In addition to such duties as criminal enforcement and support for and partnership with statewide law enforcement agencies, I also have the critical responsibility of environmental enforcement.
I joined the historic lawsuit to fight global warming -- a multi-state action aimed at the top five corporate emitters of carbon dioxide -- because nothing short of the health and safety of our citizens is at stake.
Others in high positions at the national level have failed to take these actions. My fellow attorneys general in this legal action and I have taken it upon ourselves to act because we agree with the scientists who have demonstrated something must be done NOW to address the environmental damage proven to cause global warming.

I've been working to stop global warming since 1988, when I wrote The End of Nature. It drives me crazy to see so much of this planet's life so casually endangered. The first steps are so easy (drive smaller cars, for instance) that it's very hard to understand why we haven't taken them. But I know that this is the issue our generation will be judged by. When historians look back in a century or two, the most important thing about our time won't be the Internet or the booming stock market or any of the other things we concentrate so much attention on. Rather, it will be that these were the years that temperature began to spike sharply up--that the earth's climate, stable on a global level throughout our civilization, began very suddenly to shift. As the world’s highest per-capita emitter of greenhouse gas emissions, the U.S. has a duty to tackle global warming before it’s too late. Every day that goes by, our nation is missing a tremendous opportunity to lead the world in creating a cleaner, more efficient energy system for the 21st century. American ingenuity and the technologies we create can help curb global warming, while simultaneously reducing our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels. Today, as we survey polluted rivers, contaminated land, and unbreatheable air, we find ourselves enslaved by our own actions in a world that will not be indefinitely inhabitable. As global warming continues to take its toll on the earth we see changing ecosystems, the number of endangered species increase, our water sources dry up, increasing public health crises, and receding coastlines. We must be aware of the fragility of our environment and the interconnectedness of humanity’s well-being with the earth’s. As Jews, we have a responsibility to protect and sustain God’s creation: the earth and its resources.
According to rabbinical commentary, upon presenting the wonder of creation to Adam, God said: “See my works, how fine and excellent they are! Now all that I created, for you I created. Think upon this, and do not corrupt and desolate my world; for if you corrupt it, there is no one to set it right after you.” (Ecclesiastes Rabbah 7:28) We do well to heed these words today.
By marching we at once rejoice in God’s creation and rise up to fulfill the commandment: l’ovdah, u’l’shomrah, to serve, to till, to guard, to tend (Genesis 2:15).

After thirty-four years as an officer in the United States Army, I know something about marching. From West Point to the West Wing, it has been an honor for me to march shoulder-to-shoulder with the men and women who make up the backbone of our nation’s security. Many people do not understand that global warming and environmental policy are indeed national security matters because it’s hard to see with the naked eye. We can see the impact of global warming on our lands, skies and waters. However, we have to look harder to see its effect on the geopolitical paradigm. As the average temperatures continue to rise around the world, the ice caps melt leading to reduced salinity levels in the ocean; higher sea levels; harsher winter weather, reduced soil moisture, more intense wind conditions. These conditions lead to drought and food shortages, decreased access to fresh drinking water and less secure access to energy supplies. The pressure caused by this phenomenon is a destabilizing force in global politics that could lead to civil unrest and international conflict.
So, stopping global warming is not just about saving the environment for the hunters, fisherman, hikers and the other outdoor enthusiasts of today and tomorrow. Global warming is a matter of national security. Will we live in a world where we must fight our neighbors for fresh water and food? Or will we take the lead now and leave to our children and grandchildren a world better off than the one we inherited from our parents?
Shoulder-to-shoulder, let’s march together to save what God loaned us, so our children and their children will live in a world we would recognize a hundred years from now. No excuses. No apologies. Take the first step today. We can’t do it without you.

Carbon dioxide emitted from the burning of coal, oil and gas, remains in the atmosphere for over 100 years. We are thus already committed to some warming because of past emissions. Every day that we continue to increase our emissions, we commit to even more warming and everything that comes with it: rising sea levels, heavy downpours, heat waves, insect-borne diseases, and other assaults on our health and well being. It is thus URGENT that we begin to control emissions now to reduce the amount of warming. Fortunately, doing so can save us money as we increase our energy efficiency, and increase jobs as we create technologies that produce energy without carbon pollution. It can be done, but we must get started now.
